Happy Birthday Niagara Falls!

Fun fact: the featured image is the city model that used to be at the Power Vista. It’s sitting at the NACC waiting to be put back together again for an exhibit, or so I’ve heard.

For those of you who aren’t a Niagaraphile like me, you might not know that today’s Niagara Falls’ 125th birthday!

That’s right! 125 years ago, the villages of Suspension Bridge and Manchester (I’ve also heard it called the village of Niagara Falls, but I’m using Wikipedia: go figure) were incorporated to become the City of Niagara Falls.

And yes, the incorporation being on St. Patrick’s Day was completely intentional. Thomas Welch, local official and Irish-American, convinced governor Flower (yes, we had a governor flower) to sign it on good ol’ St. Paddy’s Day!

I feel like Niagara Falls’ 125th is going to be a good year. There’s so much positive momentum, and so many passionate people. Another reason why I love this city. It truly is a magical place.

I could go on and on about everything that I love about Niagara, but that’s what I always do. I want to here from all of you. I want to know what you love about the Cataract City. I want to hear your memories, your favorite things, and everything else Niagara.

So please leave your tales in the comments, and let’s raise an Irish pint to Fantastic Niagara Falls.
