Tres Leches cake is a sponge cake soaked in way too many forms of dairy.
Wegmans attempt to make the dessert is fairly true to the regular recipe.
Personally, I never really attempted to try Tres Leches. It never really struck me as being a good idea. Nonetheless, here’s my review.
The cake is visibly wet. Getting it out of the container proves to be a bit interesting, as the bottom wants to stick to the plastic no matter what form of sorcery you try.
The bottom of the cake is basically a liquid. It is literally wet cake.
The flavor of the cake is what you’d expect: it’s wet, it’s creamy, it tastes like extra-milky wedding cake with whipped cream on top.
It’s not bad, not by a long shot. It’s a fairly good cake.
The half-strawberry on the top was out of season, and therefore hard as a brick. The cake doesn’t really need it, though.
All in all, the only way to explain Wegmans Tres Leches cake is incredible wet, but fairly good. I feel like the absurd amounts of heavy cream and milk used to soak the cake makes it a bit calorie heavy (yet feeling too light). If you like to eat your cake with milk, you’ll probably like this.
