Flock, I have an admission: I have never been to The 755.
I’ll give you a moment to pick your jaw off the floor.
Let me be clear, I have always intended to go to The 755. It checks off all of my boxes. It’s in the City Market. On Pine Avenue. In Niagara Falls. The owners are amazing people and are members of the Pine Avenue Redevelopment Project.
So why did it take me almost six and a half years to finally go there?
I have no excuse. Every single person I know has told me to try them, and I said I would eventually.
Well, eventually finally happened.
While The 755 specializes in Lebanese food, they also have a solid American menu. Of course, with it being Lent, their fish fry is wildly popular. A fish fry is a dangerous prospect for me: beer batter can go really bad really fast in my book. I’ve had people swear up and down that they’ve found the best fish fry, only to be left with a stomachache.
Flock, The 755 has the best beer battered fish fry in Niagara Falls.
The 755 has the best beer battered fish fry possibly anywhere.
There’s no frills or fluff. You get your choice of fish, choice of potatoes (or rice), coleslaw and tartar sauce. No added weight like macaroni salad or even a slice of bread. Just the basics.
As someone who usually enjoys the frills, I didn’t miss them at all. I was able to fully focus on the flavor of the fish and fries. The beer batter was light and crisp. The oil slick that often accompanies beer batter was nowhere near this fish. The tartar sauce and lemon added the perfect tang and hints of dill needed for balance. The fish was flaky and flawless. The fries were fluffy. The coleslaw was cool and perfect to cleanse the palate.
For a straightforward “fish and chips” situation, it was immaculate. If I’m feeling beer batter, I will choose this one every time without hesitation.
Now that I’ve finally tried The 755, you know I’ll be back to try their Lebanese selection.
