“Head Over Heels” by Tears for Fears -Music Review

Shopping mall music. SHOPPING. MALL. MUSIC.

This week we’re reviewing Tears for Fears’ 1985 song “Head over Heels”.

If there was a song that played over the speaker system at every mall in the 1980s, it was this song. It was also apparently in Donnie Darko, which I’ve never seen, so I’m not tainted by that.

The opening piano of this song rushes warmly over you. Then comes the sleek electric guitar that slides you to the ethereal, mall-sound lyrical flow.

There’s a lot of a e s t h e t i c posters on Tumblr that would absolutely love this song. I can smell fountain water and floor polish when listening to this song. Many songs can remind you of places, but only a few songs can transport you to that place. This is one of those songs.

Grade: A+
