The Mummy in Niagara Falls

ramses1_01

Niagara Falls gets weird sometimes.

Back in the 1800s, the Niagara Falls Museum opened in Canada. It had a lot of odd things, including the stereotypical Egyptian mummy.

Well, when the museum went under, it was revealed the mummy in the museum turned out to be the mummy of Pharaoh Ramses 1.

That’s right: Niagara Falls was home to a pharaoh for about 140 years.

An overlooked fact about the Niagara Falls Museum was its brief move over to the US side of the border. In other words, Ramses 1, Pharaoh of Egypt, spent time on both sides of Niagara Falls.

This is a story that very few people know, and if you’re interested in the details, I recommend this article by the Welland Tribune.
